Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Comparison

When Lenovo discontinued its ThinkPad X300 series, many mobile professionals were disappointed that they could no longer purchase the svelte 13-inch laptop, which combined a light-weight soft-touch chassis that has a comfy keyboard including a high-res screen. Fortunately, after nearly a year, Lenovo has debuted a new 13-inch business ultraportable while in the ThinkPad X1. This machine is really good that more than simply business users should take a look at our in-depth review.
Design
The ThinkPad X1's appearance won't be mistaken for anything rather than a ThinkPad: The matte black chassis is like design of past and current ThinkPad models. It uses hardened magnesium in their metal construction, which seems sturdier versus the Lenovo X220's chassis once i gave it the existing palm-press-on-the-lid test. At 0.84 inches, it's thicker compared to the Apple Air 13-inch (0.68 inches) and Series 9 (0.64 inches). Nevertheless its edges are sharp, because the bottom half tapers off the sides like a plate, giving the impression it is thinner than it really is. The ThinkPad X1 weighs 3.7 pounds, which is not as light as the Air 13-inch (2.9 pounds) plus the Samsung Series 9 (2.9 pounds), though. It's heavier than the 3.3-pound Lenovo X300, which shipped using a built-in optical drive. Together with the extended battery attachment, which you'll need, the body weight goes up to 4.5 pounds.
Keyboard
The ThinkPad X1s gets the same keyboard as other X200 series notebooks including the Lenovo ThinkPad X201 and X201 tablet.Investing a ThinkPad X1 with the fingers of the touch-typist is a lot like investing a Stradivarius within reach of a violinist. While every one of Lenovo's ThinkPads have strong keyboards, the ThinkPad X1 features the most beneficial laptop keyboard we've ever tested. On the curved "smile-shaped" keys making it very easy to avoid hitting adjacent keys in error to the adjustable backlightto the gentle slope from the deck, the X1 gets everything in regards to the typing experience right.Probably the best feature on the X1 keyboard would be the strong force feedback an excellent; it reminded us of the highly tactile IBM model M keyboards from the 1980s. The keys developed a subtle, pleasant clicking noise even as typed.
Pointing Stick and Touchpad
The ThinkPad X1 includes the signature pointing stick the best in the commercial although the touchpad went through some dramatic changes. It is now a click touchpad, the kind of that's a button buttons built-in. For lifelong ThinkPad users, there can be a period of adjustment. It'll seem weird (in the beginning) without needing a couple dedicated mouse buttons below the touchpad, and occasionally the scroll gesture (the touchpad incorporates multitouch gestures) begins inadvertently.
Display
The 13.4" SuperBright LCD display features glossy Corning Gorilla glass for really scratch resistance using a low-light HD webcam and microphone centered above. Lenovo has implemented the things they call an infinity design with all the display and surrounding bezel. Just like an infinity pool, the glass within the display extends out at night edge of the screen so they cover nearly all the display bezel. This results in an incredibly elegant look and is something I must see other manufacturers adopt when working with non-matte screens.
Performance
The ThinkPad X1 unit there we were sent comes with a dual-core Core i5-2520M clocked at 2.5 GHz. It is a same four thread capable processor we had on the X220 which features Intel HD 3000 graphics for any max TDP of 35W. Additional hardware includes 4GB of DDR3, a Hitachi 320GB 7200 RPM harddisk, Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wireless, Bluetooth, a 6-cell internal battery (38.92 Wh) as well as a 13.4? TFT display running at 1366 x 768 that may be engrossed in Corning Gorilla glass. Our weight as tested is 3.73 pounds with dimensions of 13.26" x 9.1" x 0.65" 0.84. Excluding the internal battery, hardware specs are virtually just like the X220 even though you can configure the processor, memory and difficult drive in your exact specification. We're also provided with the not compulsory external slice battery, a 6-cell (35.5 Wh) unit for additional runtime.
